Intervjuer - Keystone Sinatra (SWE)

Who does what in the band?

Daniel - song/guitar, Klas - guitar/song, Björn - drums, Kensby - bass/hair.

How did you come up with the name, Keystone Sinatra?

Daniel likes horseracing and threw out a few cool horsenames for fun. ”Keystone Sinatra” was THE coolest. We didn’t want to name ourselves ”Bodbäckspålle”.

Some people say that emo doesn’t belong in the punk/hc section. How do you look at emo as a part of the punk/hc-culture?

We don’t know. It’s not interesting what genre you divide music into, the important issue is whether the music is relevant to the individual listener.

In what way are you affected as a person when playing in a band? Do you alter your personality in any way?

No, you extend your personality. You learn how to compromise and cooperate with three other retards.

What is the most important you get from playing in a band?

Let some agression and adrenaline out. To have fun and fight. And keep Kensby from cutting his hair.

How do you want your future to look like?

Release some more stuff and NOT spending a fortune doing it. Create a name and maybe tour some contries.

Your harta/harta seveninch was released on Diving Records quite a while ago. What does the situation look like today? Is there a chance of seeing a full-length album with Keystone?

We’re releasing a full-length album on Diving Records before christmas (voted gift-of-the-year?). Anyway, it’s ten songs. It’s kind of a collection…over the past two years, we’ve been in and out of the studio and haven’t really released anything except the harta/harta seveninch and Twenty1 on the Emo Diaries. Diving told us they wanted to do an album with us and we had so many songs in stock, so we picked out ten songs we had. We still have awesome songs unreleased (*wink-wink* labels)!

You’ve contributed with one song for the Deep Elm compilation, ”Emo Diaries IV”. How did you manage to get the song Twenty1 on the compilation?

Diving sent Deep-Elm John the unreleased recordings with Twenty1 on it, and he liked that one very much. We had to remix it though - there was a sample from ”the crow” in the end of the song which was to loud, that’s not there anymore. If we were able to choose one song, it would’ve been another one (sans peur - unreleased *wink-wink*) though.

You recieved, according to me, a very good review in HeartAttaCk #20. What did that feel like?

Until now, we’ve only recived good response, and of course, that feels encouraging. Good can get better though - that’s up to us.

Did you start Keystone Sinatra to play music or to have fun, or does the band mean something special besides aforementioned issues?

It means a lot to all of us, and it certainly keeps us from being complete psychos. It’s a way to let off  some steam. The day Keystone dies, we will probably keep on playing in other bands. At least thats the way it has been up ‘til now.

Love seems to be a common issue when reading different emo-bands’ lyrics. Why is that? Would it work with an emo band with political lyrics?

Eeeeh, haven’t really thought about it. Every song that stirrs up any kind of emotion could technically be called ”emo”. If you’re into politics, it will probably feel natural to write about it. We’re not. Quiz - what happens if a punkrocker with a Jackson guitar falls in love with a politician and decides to write a song about it?

What’s most important to you, the music or the lyrics?

The music.

What do you do besides the time you spend together, playing in Keystone? K

ensby’s growing hair. Everyone else is growing dumb. Studying maths and programming. Becoming a lame ass teacher Shoveling horseshit while beeing unemployed. Bossing others in a computer store.

Is music all about making money, or is it to play and enjoy the moment while it lasts?

There’s a lot of money in it if you decide to play shit. Then there’s bands that play by their hearts and get what they deserve, like us. We haven’t made a buck yet, not even a groupie.

For how long will you continue to play music?

As long as we live. No question about it.

The four best bands in the world are/were?

Jawbreaker - Daniel

Waltari - Klas

Motorpsycho - Björn

The Musical ”Hair” - Kensby

Anything you want to add?

Did you steal the name of the fanzine from -time to kill-?  (ed. note. Ooooh yes!!

Thanks for taking interest in us.
